Answers about how NimbleClean counts, what it deletes, and what you can get back.
How is the “Total you can clear” worked out?
After you allow access to photos and videos, NimbleClean adds up four groups using fixed rules:
- Large videos: over 50 MB and older than 30 days.
- Old screenshots: images in the screenshots folder older than 30 days.
- Media saved by chat apps: photos and videos that supported chat apps saved to your phone, older than 90 days.
- This app’s cache: NimbleClean’s own temporary files.
Each group shows its measured size on your phone. A file is counted in one group only, and empty groups are hidden. The total adds the groups together. You can read the same rules in Settings, under “What gets listed”.
Why is nothing selected when I open the list?
Nothing is selected for you. You check a whole group, or open it to preview and pick single items. Nothing is moved to the trash or deleted until you check it and tap the button.
What happens when I tap “Move to trash”? Can I get files back?
It depends on your Android version.
- Android 11 and later: selected photos and videos go to the Android system trash after you confirm in the Android dialog. You can restore them from NimbleClean’s Trash screen until Android removes them. How long they stay is decided by Android; the Trash screen shows the time left that Android reports. NimbleClean’s own cache is deleted right away and does not go to the trash.
- Android 10 and earlier: there is no system trash. The button reads “Delete”, items are deleted at once, and the confirmation says they can’t be recovered.
Items in the trash still take up space. The result screen says so and offers “Delete for good” to reclaim that space now, or “Done” to keep them in the trash.
When does NimbleClean ask for permission?
Not when the app starts. The home screen shows the space left without any permission. NimbleClean asks for access to photos and videos only after you tap a button, in one of two places:
- The first time you tap “Find what to clear” on the home screen.
- The access card on the summary, Large files and Trash screens (“Allow photos and videos”, or “Allow all”).
You can decline or revoke access in Android settings. The home screen keeps working without it.
Which chat apps are recognized?
Currently WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. NimbleClean is not affiliated with these apps. It recognizes their media folders by path and does not check which apps are installed. In the app and on this site, this group is called media saved by chat apps.
The space left doesn’t match another storage screen. Why?
NimbleClean shows the total and available space that Android reports for your phone’s storage. Other screens can show different numbers: they may round differently or have been updated at a different moment. Items in the trash also still take up space until they are deleted for good.
The numbers on the Can be cleared screen are different: they are sizes of the files NimbleClean found, measured on your phone.
How is the “Reclaimed” amount decided?
After the Android dialog, NimbleClean checks which items were actually deleted, and “Reclaimed” counts only those. Moving items to the trash does not give the space back yet; the result screen says so. The space left now is shown on the same screen.
I allowed only some photos and videos. Is that a problem?
No. On Android 14 and later you can allow only some photos and videos. NimbleClean then counts only those and tells you so on screen (for example, “Only the 12 items you allowed are counted”). Use “Allow all” on the access card if you want a full count.
Which languages are available? How do I change the language?
15 languages: English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 日本語, हिन्दी, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, ไทย, Tiếng Việt, Filipino and 한국어. NimbleClean follows your phone’s language. To change it, open Settings in the app and choose Language.

Write to [email protected]. It helps if you include:
- The app version (Settings › About › Version) and your Android version.
- Your phone’s make and model.
- What you did, what you expected and what you saw. A screenshot of the app screen helps; you decide what to send.
